Newfoundland and Labrador has conducted its latest provincial immigration draw, inviting 186 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence through its immigration programs.
The draw took place on May 11, 2026, under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). It was the province’s fifth immigration draw of the year and the second selection round conducted in May.
Most Candidates Selected Through NLPNP
Among the total invitations issued:
- NLPNP: 168 invitations
- AIP: 18 invitations
The latest results once again show that Newfoundland and Labrador is relying heavily on its provincial nominee program to attract skilled foreign workers and address labour shortages.
Although the province did not disclose the exact immigration streams or occupations selected in this draw, healthcare professionals and workers in health-related sectors are believed to remain among the top priorities.
Healthcare Sector Continues to Receive Priority
Newfoundland and Labrador continues to face labour shortages in several industries, particularly healthcare services in smaller communities.
The May 11 draw recorded the lowest number of invitations issued by the province so far this year. However, immigration activity in Newfoundland and Labrador remains significantly higher than in 2025.
Earlier immigration draws conducted in 2026 included:
- 445 invitations on March 6
- 245 invitations on March 30
- 210 invitations on April 13
- 190 invitations on May 1
Province Has Issued Over 1,200 Invitations This Year
With the latest draw included, Newfoundland and Labrador has now issued 1,276 invitations through the NLPNP and AIP in 2026.
This marks a substantial increase compared to last year. During the same period in 2025, the province had issued only 584 invitations through two immigration draws.
The current year’s figures show that Newfoundland and Labrador has already invited 692 more candidates than it did during the same timeframe last year.
NLPNP Remains Main Immigration Pathway
Another major trend observed this year is the province’s strong focus on the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program. More than 84% of all invitations issued in 2026 have gone to NLPNP candidates.
Foreign nationals interested in immigrating to Newfoundland and Labrador must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).
In most cases, applicants are required to have a valid job offer from an employer located within the province before they can enter the EOI pool.
Important Details for Immigration Applicants
Candidates must provide information related to their education, occupation, work experience, language skills, and plans to settle in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The province then reviews all submitted EOIs and selects the most competitive applicants.
Successful candidates under the NLPNP receive a provincial nomination invitation, while candidates selected through the Atlantic Immigration Program receive a provincial endorsement.
Once invited, applicants are required to submit a complete application within 60 days. EOIs remain active in the immigration pool for up to 12 months.
The province has also stated that it may prioritize candidates based on factors such as healthcare occupations, employment outside major urban centres, long-term settlement potential, and educational ties to Newfoundland and Labrador.
As immigration demand continues to grow across Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador is positioning itself as an increasingly important destination for skilled foreign workers seeking permanent residence opportunities in 2026.
